Native American-Made Ahote Katsina Doll-Yellow
A’hote is renowned for his hunting prowess. He can appear in various directional colors, with the most common being Yellow (Sikyahote) and Blue (Sakwahote). As the Grand Katsina Uncle of the Mixed Katsina Group, A’hote features prominently in the Mixed Dances. He is depicted in two distinct ways: one version shows planets on his mask, while the other features a “split” mask with different colors on each side. Both versions are inspired by Plains Indian traditions, evidenced by his long trailing eagle feather headdress. Only a few artists create Native American dolls in this unique manner, and the action, carving, painting, and details are exceptionally accurate. ^
