Native American Hopi Made Coil Plaque with Deer
On Second Mesa the Hopi weavers specialize in Coil basketry. Hopi coiled baskets are woven by wrapping bundles of plant material with a single piece of alternate plant material, usually yucca. The colors are usually limited to white, yellow, green, red and black and are derived from natural sources. Designs you often find on these beautiful baskets are Katsinam, animals, blanket, rug and geometric designs. The deer that circle the plaque represent the prayer for plentiful game and a successful harvest.
Dimensions: 9 inches in diameter.
