Native American Acoma Hand-Painted and Tool-Marked Seed Pot
This exquisite hand-painted seed pot, featuring tool marks around the opening, is signed by Acoma potter Beatrice Garcia. It is a quintessential example of Acoma pottery, adorned with geometric designs both around the top and on the body of the pot. Traditionally, in the fall, women would store seeds for the next spring in these pots and stack them. They would place the pots in a corner of their home, with the bottom of one pot sealing the top of another. This method saved space and protected the seeds from rodents, ensuring a safe supply for the next planting season. ^
