Bow and Arrows with Rattle
This Hopi made bow was hand-carved and decorated by the Hopi Katsinam to give out at a dance. This bow was made for an initiation ceremony on Hopi. The arrows are painted and tied to the top of the bow. This bow also has a gourd rattle attached to it. The size of this rattle indicates that the recipient would have most likely been a teenager. These gifts are given to the male children at the same dances that the tihu or cradle dolls are given to the girls.
Dimensions: 33 inches long; rattle is 11 inches long and head is 5 inches in diameter.
