Knives

At Gray Wolf Trading Post, we offer a wide array of Native American knives, each handmade by artists from various tribes. These unique pieces of art and craftsmanship are crafted and accented with natural materials.

For Native Americans and other indigenous people, knives are deeply personal items. Historically, Native American knives were used in close-quarters combat, thrown from horseback, and even for scalping enemies, a practice associated with certain tribes. Hunters and warriors often fashioned blades from the bones of large game animals. To create a handle, they would attach an antler or stick to the base of the blade for a better grip. Many throwing knives were crafted from a single piece to enhance balance and accuracy. It wasn’t until the arrival of the Spanish that Native Americans began using metal for their blades, as they did not forge metal prior to this interaction. ^
